The PSE Experience:

The fellowship, academic support, experiential learning and personal growth our members find in Pi Sigma Epsilon (PSE) make all the difference in their personal and professional success. PSE chapters operate like businesses on campus, with students taking on leadership roles that mirror those in professional settings. They manage their own business tax ID number, operate a profit and loss statement, and conduct sales, marketing research, and community outreach projects and so much more. Members are recruited and onboarded through a professional interview process, ensuring they gain practical experience from the start.

Support Through the PSE Network:

Throughout their time in PSE, students benefit from the support and guidance of faculty advisors, alumni coaches, and national headquarters. The chapters are student-organized and student-run, allowing members to set their own goals and create strategies to achieve them. This collaborative and supportive environment offers a “safe place to fail,” where students can analyze their project performance and learn what contributed to their successes and how to improve in the future.

Selling Skills Are Life Skills:

One of the most significant advantages of PSE membership is the focus on developing essential selling skills, a hallmark of PSE that proves valuable in any career. As the saying goes, “Nothing happens in business until somebody sells something.” This fundamental truth is why PSE places selling at its core. Unlike other business organizations, PSE uniquely emphasizes selling as a service based on customer needs. Selling is a life skill centered on positive engagement, relationship building, and honest intent. It involves understanding customer needs and providing solutions that meet those needs. Moreover, selling as a service fosters customer success and long-term relationships, benefiting both the company and the customer.

Even if your student does not intend to go into a selling role when they graduate, it is highly likely that they will need to have these skills to effectively navigate the job interview process, learning to sell themselves, their ideas and qualifications. Further, every professional role from entry-level up to management and the C-suite requires mastery of fundamental communications skills. Selling skills are the mastery of fundamental communications skills.

How Parents and Family Members Can Help:

Encourage your student to join PSE and get involved immediately! The sooner they engage, the more value they will derive from PSE membership (students can join as early as their first semester on campus!). 

They might need a little help with membership fees; while PSE’s fee structure is one of the lowest across national professional organizations, sometimes students need assistance. 

Help them get to PSE professional events so they can see first-hand what success looks like! Encourage your student to fully engage by signing up to compete, connecting with employers, and diving into educational sessions that will set them on a path to success. (Purchase an event registration as a birthday or Christmas gift, perhaps?)
